Reports to: Summer Academy Director

Evolve will host a two-week, hybrid summer camp Monday through Friday, July 26th through August 6th that will offer four media of focus: visual art, performance, animation, and writing. The camp will take place at Winchester Thurston School with some students participating in person, and some participating online. All classroom instructors will have in-class support from Evolve team members and volunteers to assist with managing the hybrid environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Art Instructors will develop and teach nine, 60-minute live lessons (preferably in person, but remote instruction can be considered) for 5-10 students per lesson over the course of 10 days. All lessons will be recorded.

  • Each 60-minute lesson should include time for instruction and independent/group student work time.

  • Instructors have the freedom to create their own lesson plans with the support of the Evolve team, keeping creative use of at-home resources in mind. Evolve has the ability to purchase some materials needed for lessons.

  • Instructors will be expected to be present for their 60-minute lessons from 10:30 – 11:30 each day, facilitate an interdisciplinary group project in cooperation with other teachers from 1:30-3:15, and attend guest lecturers and wrap-up meetings in the afternoon, with each day ending at 3:30.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with campers of various ages and backgrounds.

  • Ability to reach and excite students who learn differently through creativity and flexibility.

  • Passion for including all students in the learning process is a must.

  • Experience teaching in an online environment preferred, but not required.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching animation, and/or foundational elements of animation, to beginner-level students.

  • Experience teaching students with special needs preferred, though all instructors will have the support of the Evolve clinical team to help ensure students can access information.

Art Instructor Stipend
Art Instructors will be provided a stipend of $2000 for the 10 days of camp instruction/participation, plus approximately 4 hours in total of technology support, Autism & Neurodiversity 101, and team building among all classroom instructors prior to the start of camp.
